AG: "URBANER TANZ & URBAN DANCE"

Let‘s talk about the term „Urban Dance“!

In a lot of texts and statements we read about the term "urban" in the music industry and dance scene being questioned. Our main question therefore: Is the term appropriate to use? And why does the german dance scene still use it even though there are sources that definitely show, that it’s a racist term? To quote @steezyblog: "To many of the dancers who were raised on Hip Hop while living in the inner city, 'Urban' is a derogatory term usually used to stereotype their community. It's a polite way to say 'ghetto'."

We are very interested to learn more about this topic, to discuss, to listen and also to exchange knowledge with you. We are very aware that we are not in the position to decide if this term should be used or not. That’s why we also plan on inviting people to an online lecture who know more about this term and its usage. We will soon announce when, where and who.
